- Ulyanovsk Folk Group to Appear
Cossack Soul confirms their appearance at the RWF 2007 – Prize Winners of the All-Russian Festival, the Ulyanovsk folk ensemble Cossack Soul was created in 1999 under the auspices of the Centre of Folk Art and Creativity and consists of 22 members. Forming a colourful collective with stylised costumes and accordion, balalaika, violin, tambourine and guitar players as well as drummers, this ensemble perform a great variety of songs and styles – patriotic, marches, lyrical and dance numbers and comic pieces from the Volga, Don, Kuban, Tie, Ural and Siberian Cossacks. They have performed at a number of national festivals and also internationally including in Denmark.
- Renowned Choir Group to Sing on Trafalgar Square
The Danilovskiy Monastery Choir (Moscow), one of the most famous choral ensembles to perform orthodox church music in Russia will perform in London! The choir’s repertoire, taken from many epochs, includes a whole variety of styles: High Church music and renditions taken from the ‘Twelve Feasts of the Christian Year’, Lent and Easter incantations and hymns, Christmas carols, ecclesiastical psalms and Russian military and historical songs. Currently this choir is first and foremost in the sphere of Russian Church music and is frequently invited to represent Russia in a variety of music festivals, including the Russian Winter Festival 2007 on Trafalgar Square.
- Sounds of Siberia in London
The band Siberia (not to be confused with the Spanish group Sibir) was established only a year ago, a fact which may go a long way to explaining their effusive positive energy! Their unusual sound, contemporary arrangements and special effects make them stand out from the music crowd and despite their youth they have already made their first film soundtrack - Feodor Bondachuk’s “Heat”.
- Experimental Rock Band Confirms for Festival
Max Pokrovsky, lead singer of Nogu Svelo and star of the popular reality show “The last hero” will sing both his new songs and old favourites, including his sound track to “The Turkish Gambit” a wildly successful Russian film. Nogu Svelo is a popular Russian rock-band, usually associated with humor and parody as well as accessible and sometimes strikingly simple melodies. Nogu Svelo has, however, experimented with many styles in the past and pay particular attention to interesting instrumentation and arrangements as well as good production values. The extravagant style of their late nineties albums has however given way to a simpler and more commercially accessible sound in their post-1999 releases.
- Military Ensemble to March on British Capital
The Suvorovsky Ensemble of the Military and Music Academy of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation will perform for the first time on Trafalgar Square on January 13th 2007. Their military marches complete with energetic drumming parades resonate with ceremony and their folk and soldier song prove as popular as their jazz compositions. This is just a taster of the repertoire of this legendary ensemble, originally created as the Second Moscow School of Military and Music Cadets of the Red Army by the order of the People’s Committee for the Defence of the Russian Soviet Federal Socialist Republic in 1937!
- Proceeds from Dinner Auction to Go to Russian Church
Eventica, organiser of the Russian Winter Festival ‘Old New Year’ Gala Dinner, will be donating money raised by an auction to be held at the event to the Russian Orthodox Cathedral of the Adoration of the Virgin Mary in Chiswick, London. Legendary Russian singer Garik Sukachiov will be one of the key performers in the RWF programme! He will sing his most popular hits on Trafalgar square on January 13th.
- Leading Russian TV Channel to Make Film of Festival
TV Channel “Russia” signs as Media Partner of the RWF and will film a documentary of the event to be shown on main channels shortly after the Festival itself.
- Top Russian TV Presenter to Compere
Deputy General Director of special media projects of the leading TV channel “Russia” and author and presenter of the popular programme “News of the week”, Sergei Brilev is coming to the Russian Winter Festival and will join the celebrations on Trafalgar Square as Presenter!
Brilev also annually presents President Putin’s live broadcast with Ekaterina Andreeva of First Channel, a broadcast which reached an audience of 72% of the Russian population.

- Alternative Russian Rock Band to Perform
Tokio first faced the public in 2003 at the Russian rock festival “Maxidrom”, where they won the title of “Main Musical Discovery of the Year”. Since then the group has steadily climbed the ranks to become an established yet still highly original ‘alternative rock’ band. Their success at the London private party Moscow Motion in April convinced the Russian Winter Festival organisers to invite them back to entertain the crowds at the event.
- Up and Coming Girl Band Confirms for Festival
Recently debuted on MTV and Echo of Moscow Radio Station – both media famed for spotting only the brightest future trend setters, the Russian Winter Festival invites Ranetki, the 5 piece girl band to perform on Trafalgar Square.

- Guildhall Confirmed as Venue for Annual Gala Dinner
Venue is confirmed for the prestigious Russian Old New Year Gala Dinner. The event will be held in the architecturally impressive Guildhall on Friday 12th January 2007. - Teaming Up with Sochi to Support Olympic Bid
The Russian Winter Festival has teamed up with Sochi to promote their bid to host the Winter Olympics of 2014 of which they have just been nominated a key Candidate City!
Sochi is a Russian city in the spectacular snow-capped Caucasus Mountain Range overlooking the Black Sea. It is situated in the Krasnodar region near the border with Abkhazia and Georgia.
