"The way you greet the New Year is an omen for your entire year"
Traditional Russian proverb
New Year’s Eve comes but once a year – unless you can join us for the Russian Old New Year Gala Dinner on 12 January 2007 – a perfect excuse to celebrate all over again!
The tradition of celebrating Russian ‘Old New Year’ comes from the old calendar used in Russia prior to the Revolution. This year, the exclusive and unique Russian Old New Year Gala Dinner will take place in the magnificent surroundings of Guildhall, in the centre of London. A spectacular venue for the evening, Guildhall has been a centre of pageantry, colour and ceremony for over 800 years.
The dinner is held in conjunction with the annual Russian Winter Festival, organised by Eventica, which will take place on Trafalgar Square on Saturday 13th January and seeks to bring the rich legacy of Russian culture and cuisine into the spotlight. The Gala Dinner, on the eve of the Festival, is a star-studded evening of entertainment featuring the participation of celebrities, leading representatives from the Russian and British business community and key players from Government, media and the arts - all providiing an ideal opportunity to combine business with pleasure.
You will join guests enjoying performances from leading musical and dance ensembles from Russia as well as some of Russia's most prominent pop and rock stars, whilst sampling a festive Russian-inspired banquet - washed down, of course, with shots of real Russian vodka to keep you dancing until the early hours.
Among the distinguished guests who have already confirmed their attendance are Alexander Zhukov, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation; Dmitry Chernyshenko, CEO of the Sochi 2014 Bid Committee; Vyacheslav Fetisov, Head of Federal Agency of Sports and Physical Culture of Russian Federation; Nikita Mikhalkov, Oscar-winning film director and representatives from both the Mayor of London’s and the Mayor of Moscow’s office.
Proceeds raised during the Gala Dinner will support the construction fund for "Russian Orthodox Cathedral of the Dormition of the Most-Holy Mother of God and Holy Royal Martyrs".
Over the past years guests at the ‘Old New Year’ Gala Dinner included: Yuri Luzhkov, Mayor of Moscow; Ken Livingstone, Mayor of London; HRH Prince Michael of Kent; Irina Kudrina, founder of one of the Festival charities, Northern Crown; Alexander Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of Gazprom; Len Blavatnik, Chairman, Access Industries; Roger Munnings, Chairman, KPMG CIS; Maxim Shostakovich, conductor; Dmitry Peskov, Deputy Press Secretary of the Russian President; Sir Andrew Wood, former British Ambassador to Russia; Igor Finogenov, Member of the Board, Nomos-Bank; Stephen Webster, Designer; Donatella Flick; Lady Aliai Forte; Dmitry Bertman, Artistic Director, Helikon Opera; Alina Kabaeva, Russian Olympic gymnastics champion; Andrei Malakhov, TV presenter amongst many others.
