1st Annual Russian Rhapsody
Drapers Hall, London, 19 April 2002

The first Russian Rhapsody, in April 2002, was held in the City's Drapers' Hall. A truly magical evening, it included a black tie dinner and contributions from a unique lineup of many of Russia's best known musicians, including violist Yuri Bashmet; saxophonist Igor Butman, who gave an impromptu performance after dinner; and star of the Bolshoi Opera Zurab Sotkilava, who serenaded guests with a selection of classics from his repertoire.

The inaugural Russian Rhapsody was the occasion for the world premiere of a specially-commissioned piece, Adagio 'Nostalgie', by award-winning composer Enri Lolashvili, who was present to hear his work exquisitely performed by Yuri Bashmet and the Russian Chamber Orchestra of London. Only 500 copies of the Adagio 'Nostalgie' recording have been made.

Over £5000 was raised during an auction for Russian Arts Help.
