Celebrities, fashion designers, models and Russian dignitaries posed on the red carpet before being led into the dream-like reception of palatial proportions. Theatrically costumed ballerinas painted like porcelain dolls pirouetted and led guests into the opulent surroundings. This, surely, was the theme of the night - everything larger than life and reminiscent of the giddy eighties. The Marie Antoinette-style reception was stacked sky-high with cakes and delicacies resembling jewels and sweets. In keeping with the fairy-tale style, many were in fact savoury culinary creations cleverly disguised. The mirrored bars were literally over-flowing with Moet Chandon and Hennessy cocktails. Nick Valentine, founder of the Cuckoo Club, remarked that the party 'royally rocked like only the Russians can' before heading off later in the evening for his home turf on Swallow Street.
An hour into the reception, a Russian accent was heard beckoning guests through a tunnel into a massive Moscow-style club, disguised by the venue's central bridge.
Performers such as Sophie Ellis-Bextor and racy Russian girl group VIA GRA (who, incidentally, performed a very revealing set!) brought the guests, particularly the male contingency, to their feet; and DJs Markus Gardeweg and Pasha Koreetz kept the party going late into the night. The musical line-up finished on a high note, with a surprise performance by young, hip Russian electro-pop group И.Р.А. At one point a scantily clad female was suspended from the ceiling by a tight rope and acrobatically served champagne into the glasses of an open-mouthed crowd. Mary Nighy commented that ‘it was a fantastic event, a fascinatingly diverse crowd and some great performances’.
Moscow Motion 2007 joined forces with Hennessy Artistry, whose trademark is the fusing of musical artists and the blending of drinks, artistically. Hennessy Artistry has showcased the likes of Goldfrapp, the Strokes, Carl Cox, and Kanye West to name but a few – always attracting crowds of celebrities who sip their deliciously imaginative cocktails. Bars are fashioned from five of the world’s most iconic cities - Miami, Paris, Shanghai, New York, and of course Moscow. The five bars of the 'Moscow' club and the restricted access balcony in the reception were teaming with quite a cross-section of guests including Tom Hollander (Actor), Peaches Geldof (Student, DJ and daughter of Sir Bob), Ozwald and Gyunel Boateng (Fashion Designer and Model), Karen Millen (Fashion Designer), Nicky Haslam (Interior Designer), Stephen Webster (Jewellery Designer), Gabriella Calthorpe (Socialite and Model), Mary Nighy (Actress), Linzi Stoppard (Violinist), Lorcan O’Toole (Actor), Jasmine Guinness (Socialite and Heiress), Lady Emily Compton (PR Director and Socialite), Natalie Pinkham (Model and TV Presenter), Konnie Huq (TV Presenter), and Harriet Scott (Radio Presenter), Maximillian Cooper (Founder Gumball 3000), Alexei Smertin (Fulham FC), Aliona Doletskaya (Editor-in-Chief), Mash Tsigal (Fashion Designer), Oleg Tinkoff (Tinkoff Brewery), Boris Teterev (Rolls Royce, Russia). The sheer extravagance and originality of it all was being remarked upon by many within the venue who will no doubt be back again next year.
