Taking part in the Regatta for the first time, Barbados entered a joint-team with My Planet, Russia’s first TV channel dedicated to travel, science and history. My Planet will visit Barbados later this month to produce a special documentary profiling the island as an up-and-coming destination for Russia’s emerging middle class.

Russians are sailing, surfing and diving in ever greater numbers. Eventica Communications, Barbados’ official PR representative in Russia, is running a year-long campaign highlighting water sports holidays in Barbados. “This event was just the beginning of a promotional campaign that will climax in a Russia Regatta and festival of water sports in Barbados next February,” said Sergei Kolushev, CEO, Eventica.

Our first project was the design, production and project management of the Bid’s stand and branded ‘network café’ at the ‘Russia – Country of Sport’ Forum in Moscow on 29 July – 1 August 2010. Eventica provided a range of event support services, from the creation and production of an eye-catching and high-tech exhibition stand to the production of promotional giveaways. Central to the exhibition display was a state-of-the-art interactive multi-touch screen table, which allowed Forum delegates to navigate around Russia with their fingertips, ‘visiting’ the host cities of the Russian bid and seeing for themselves the fantastic 3D plans for the stadiums that are central to the Russian bid.

The Russia 2018/2022 Network Café, which Eventica also created for the event, featured an engaging historical timeline, illustrated by large-format lightboxes running along the length of the space, charting the key dates in Russian football from the beginning of the 20th century through to the present day.

The reception, part of the BTA’s first ever full Continental Europe marketing campaign, truly launched the island in Russia.

“I am delighted to be in Russia to meet with our industry partners and show how serious Barbados is about Russia,” Mr Keysselitz said. “Russia is a new market for Barbados but one with great potential. We are confident that Barbados will be an increasingly popular choice for Russians, especially as the island is a wonderful safe and family-friendly destination.”

After a presentation by Mr Keysselitz, tour operators, travel agents and journalists sampled Bajan delights including rum cocktails and a Caribbean barbeque on the terrace of Eventica Communications’ Moscow office.

Condor airlines co-hosted the evening and a return ticket to Barbados, provided by Condor, was won in a raffle by a representative of Altair Travel Company.

“We are pleased to be working closely with the BTA. Condor is doubling the number of flights to Barbados from Europe in November, providing more flexibility and choice for travellers,” said Ekaterina Bakhtina, Condor representative, Moscow.

Eventica was appointed to design, project manage and produce NEON Moscow from start to finish, coordinating everything from logistics and staging to guest management and media relations.

The company’s in-house designers worked with renowned British Art Director Michael Howells to create a striking and contemporary theme for the evening, drawing on neon lighting and a sleek black and white colour scheme. This design was then implemented by Eventica.

The event featured a fashion show by leading international designers, a stunning auction of contemporary art and haute couture and an exclusive private musical performance by the legendary British rock group Duran Duran, followed by DJ Ruckus, who kept the celebrity guests dancing on the catwalk until 2am.
